“I could write a whole dissertation on your Sung Hee character. But it really shows, in a freeze frame fashion, your enormous talent as a performer who is at the peak of her powers.
I can’t help to use metaphors and symbolizes but it reminds me of the statuette carvings of the goddess Shiva (and other goddesses) that have such a masterful control over such raging, supposedly contradictory energies.
In your case, naivety/sarcasm (among others). You use it to a devastating effect as an indictment of institutional racism (especially in global media)….how did Sung Hee here the word ‘Nigger’ in the first place…maybe TV, maybe film?
The performance creates a space for people to laugh, but in joining you, you then force them to face the worst aspects of ‘Western’ society. Aspects that they would ordinarily like hidden…..so that it may continue giving them their SUVs….
So, to me its like you’re ran up to the ‘emperor’, pulled his pants down and started pointing, laughing and mocking him….and invited the audience to do the same.
You can’t get people marching off to war like that….
So, that’s how your switch-blade humor slices the jugular vein of Western popular culture…
